I am evaluating ecommerce packages for a client and your product matches our requirements very well with one pretty big exception - most of their products are digital and available for download.

Is this a feature your plan to add soon? If not, is this something I could add without the full source code? Does the template source code include the code for the administrative site?

Thanks,

Christian

Estimate is not set for this feature yet. Please describe your client digital downloads feature requirements and we will check if it is possible to add this feature without full source code. We may consider to open required source code parts.

The requirements are:

1. Each product can have one or more digital downloads
2. Some are free and should be available to browsers of the website (i.e. samples, informational documents, etc...). These are really more like attachments.
3. Each product can have one or more "protected" documents that can only be accessed by purchasers of the product. For example, after purchasing one product, the user can download a PDF document containing textual data and a zipped raw data file.
4. Administrators would need to upload these files on the product entry screen and categorize them as free or protected.
5. Purchasers can access the protected files for 30 days after purchasing them.

Partially opened source would be great. We would like to avoid customizing the core code as much as possible to avoid upgrade problems. I was also considering storing the uploaded file locations and related data in an external database (linked to the XSE product by the XSE product id). Then if I could customize the administrative product entry and the public product detail screens, I wouldn't have to get into the core code.

Thanks,

Christian

It's been about a year since this question was addressed. where do things currently stand with respect to downloadable content management?

The above was posted in Jun 2007 and I cant see a digital download option in the demo store admin, was it implemented?

The store looks good to me, my requirements are for an API to be called when a product is ordered, is this possible?

Digital Download module task was put on hold and currently N/A. If you are .NET developer or have developers we can work together to add such module. Option to make an API call when product is ordered is available.
